Can they track my IP even if I took down the ad?
So I was pissed when I found out my boyfriend cheated on me and to get revenge I posted his pic and number on a craigslist ad. He contacted the police for harassment and he said on facebook that that'll track me (doesn't know it was me/general post) using my IP from the ad. It had only been up for 3 hours and I took it down. Will they still be able to track me?

He also said on his post 'either confess to me or wait for the cops to show up to your door. your choice' so I have feeling that he may have not done it yet
I emailed you!

The police will not show up at your door (at least they probably won't) but you will likely get a cease and desist letter from the superior court and be charged a court fee.

This will only happens if there's some proof that this happened. meaning if he has a screenshot. I'm not sure if Craigslist keeps offline databases but if they do then they will have evidence.

An offline database is when after you take down your post, it is stored in an offline database that no one can view, but police can still access it if requested.

Long story short, you might get in a bit of trouble, but nothing serious.

Edit: Got distracted, to answer your question yes. They will likely be able to track your exact address from your IP. Even if you deleted the add it was submitted with an email, and they will be able to track it from that

Again ,it will be unlikely they would send someone in person, if they do nothing serious will come of it.

Email me at ipissnapalm@yahoo.com if you want to get some proper revenge

Re-edit: He did NOT contact the police about this. In order to contact the police on this he would need to go to the courthouse or police station and file a police report. This can only be done in person, and the courthouse and police station hours (in most counties) close at 8PM.

Wow.. this other guy's serious.. revenge? what are you going to do, kill him? lol. listen you'll be fine. The police can demand whatever they want but craigslist doesn't mean they have to comply unless show a proper warrant. Trust me they have better things to do with their time. You'll be fine, stop freaking out.

And, yes they could track you with your IP address but that would mean they would need 2 warrants. One to get the craigslist log of the creator of the post and the other to your Internet Service Provider to see who they leased "that IP address" to at that specific time.

Seriously, harassment my a** . Like the other guy said, the cops will probably see his claim and rather get some guy selling high-grade drugs or something.
