Do you need to pay for internet on the Wii?

I've heard that it's free to download but then I've heard that you have to pay about $5 to download it. So which one is it?

It is free to connect your wii to the internet. There are charges for game you purchase. But you have to use your existing internet connection to connect with a wii.

No, you do NOT have to pay for internet on the wii. Downloading the internet channel used to cost $5, but now it's completely FREE! With the internet channel, you can do a few things like: tweet on twitter, check if your farmville animals are still alive on facebook, watch kids get owned by trampolines on youtube, AND MORE!
