How to talk to a guy on facebook?

I'm 20 hes 20. I used to know him from martial arts class from when we were little. And we see eachother once every few years... (he's my instructors son ) i still do martial arts but he stopped...

I have him on facebook, and i'm too scared to talk to him. He's never online but he does go on sometimes to check i'm pretty sure.

Whats a reason to talk to him... without looking weird! I'm thinking of saying my brother says to say hi.. or something! i'm not sure, i've had a crush on him for so long it's so nerve wracking.. haha!

any ideas?

You could say:

"Hey! I'm looking to get back into martial arts. Does your father still do that, or know anyone?"

simply open with "hey it's been a while" and then go from there. ask him how he is. or what he's been up to
