Is it wrong to do a random social media and mobile device check on my teenagers?

No, it is not wrong for you to do so- in fact, I think it is your responsibility to do so. My children have rules regarding their use of phone and social media.

With the phone, they are not allowed to delete anything and I do random checks. I do not read everything in detail- I just basically look to make sure they are not texting at times they are not supposed to, not sending/receiving inappropriate pictures, not texting strangers, etc.

With Facebook, I must log them in (they do not even know the password) and I am on their friend list and if they blocked me from seeing something, their password would be changed faster than they could imagine. THey should not be doing anything they have to hide from you.

They can get in a lot of trouble- socially, emotionally and even legally- with these forms of communication. THey can do things that they are unable to realize have long term effects. It is our job to guide them.
