Why do they have ads that make sound?

Why do they have ads that make sound?
I'm not talking about ads that play before you play a game or a video. Those are annoying, but tolerable.

What's intolerable are these ads that play on the page, while you're in the middle of a video, game, or talking on facebook. They just start randomly with no warning and don't have a "pause" or "volume" button. And they happen on every browser, now on most popular websites. And I'm not just about to stop using those sites. Who the hell allows this annoyance to interrupt an internet user's time? Who's the jerk who even thought of this? They deserve a good kick in the balls. This is not something we should just get used to. What do you think?
Jeez, they even happen on Yahoo! Answers.
There's also something even more obnoxious, ads that open in new tabs when you click anywhere on the website, such as what's happening to me when I click on Yahoo! Answers. Fucking Goodgame Empire keeps popping up!
Plutonic, these are real ads for real products, and I'm virus free.

I have never had that happen on Yahoo Answers. You probably have downloaded a virus which pops them up at you at random. There are a couple of things you can try. One of them is Lavasoft's AdAware. Download and run it to see if it finds anything. The other thing, if you are running Chrome is you can download AdBlock. That is an add on to the browser that stops most ads and keeps advertisers from putting cookies on your computer to track you.

Welcome to the world of "in your face" marketing. I have found I can close them or shut off the sound a lot of times, but most of the time I just have to put up with them. What's worse, in my view, is the fact that these ads slow the pages down when they load. They are a waste of cyberspace.

But they do get our attention, don't they? Maybe that's why they are there.
