Craigslist.com is an online classified ad site that you can post ads to.

There's a whole bunch of them out there these days. The two I'd check out first are:
~ http://www.kijiji.com (ebays version of Craigslist)

Off the top of my head, a few "outside the box" ways to sell something are:
~ Post the item on your social networks and ask your friends to pass it along
~ Put the item in the signature block of your emails
~ Check the websites for your local newspapers, many of them allow you to post a for sale ad for free
~ Look for websites that are dedicated to what you're wanting to sell. Let's say it's ski's. Look for skiing websites with forums and post your item for sale in their forum.
~ Check regional websites, for example I live in Arizona and a regional website is AZCentral.com where I'm able to sell stuff.
~ Sometimes your community (if it's large enough) will have it's own website, mine is my five digit zip code and then dot com.
~ If it's something a Mom or their kids could use, check out Mom websites like WAHM.com (see their forum). Sites like this often have a for sale section.

I could give you more suggestions if I knew what you wanted to sell. Feel free to email me if you'd like further help.

Here's a few more sites that I got from Googling "sell things online for free"
http://www.buysellcommunity.com
http://www.sell.com
http://www.thecyberyardsale.com

Or if you're really having troubles, look at the top 20 websites based on traffic (http://www.alexa.com/topsites) and figure out how you can post on any of these sites with a plug for your item for sale. Don't spam, be sure to post something relevant, but in the signature of your post, add your for sale item.

Regardless of where you post, be sure to read the websites rules and T's & C's first to insure you're not violating anything that could get you banned.

Good luck!
Debbie
