How did I get the system tool 2011 virus?
I had this virius on my computer last night, and I already got rid of it. But I'm wondering how it got on my computer in the first place. I didn't go on any bad sites, just facebook and the My Chemical Romance website. And there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with my virus protection.

Anyone have any idea how it got on my computer?

Its a new virus thats all I can realy say. Everyone tries to make one but fails and some make it better then your protection i suggest not going on any websites (even safe ones) untill you update your protection I use Norton and it updates all on its own so I am safe you might want to look into using that.

Well once again it all depends on what you have as a protection now.

System Tool 2011 is not a virus, it's a MALicious softWARE (AKA Malware)

Use this free removal tool for System Tool 2011 to get rid of it
http://www.net-studio.org/eng/patch/patc...moval.html

Restart your computer and as soon as your computer turns on hit the F8 key (repeatedly) until a screen comes up
Choose Start computer in SAFE MODE with network support
Download, extract and run the removal tool
Click on the delete button

Good luck

Dont worry, install an anti malware program like malware bytes or manually remove the system tool 2011 virus by deleteing its file, stop its process from task manager, delete system tool 2011`s registry values and its dll files as well, good luck

How it got on your computer in the first place... well... there are many possibilities for this. But this particular “virus” is not actually a virus, it comes under “malware”. Anti-virus programs don’t always detect malware and therefore you should frequently run anti-malware programs such as “Malwarebytes Anti-Malware” or “Spybot Search & Destroy”. If you don’t frequently keep them up-to-date with the latest signatures however, then they may not detect the newest threats.

To answer your question – how it got on there in the first place – well, there’s all sorts of possibilities.

Here's just a few.......

- Your anti-virus or anti-malware program may not be up-to-date. Make sure that whatever program you use that it's always downloading the updates/signatures.

- The malware you experienced may have been written in such a way that it sneaked its way into your system. This can occur from ANY website if it has been hacked, and usually takes advantage of Java.

- You could have been tricked into downloading and installing a fake program (rogue software) like a video codec to watch a video clip or something. Be very cautious when downloading free apps... some infect your system with viruses and/or malware.

- It could have been sitting on your system for quite some time, waiting for something to trigger it off and your program didn't detect it... depends on how the virus/malware was written.

But it all boils down to the quality of your anti-virus/anti-malware program. Make sure it's always running and ensure it's consistently downloading updates/signatures.

I hope this helps Smile

'Out-of-the-box' MS Windows absolutely reeks with security problems and bad configurations that home users are unaware of...and so the endless exploits and malware infections.
My Avast! shows over 2 million malware code items.

You must reform your entire Windows strategy and tactics.
"10-Step Security"/PC World; http://www.pcworld.com/article/122500/

Even the most diligent & informed user, with layers of protection, smart user habits, solid system configurations & "real time" protection risks infection from these constantly morphing codes and vectors.
(Check for fairly current threats here: http://blogs.pcmag.com/securitywatch/top_threat/

Stop using Internet Explorer!
It is the Undisputed World Heavyweight Champ @ passing malicious garbage.
You can't rely on an "anti-anything" if you use Internet Explorer, or a 'stock' Firefox browser which has been hacked by an Official Microsoft installation.
All Microsoft installed rubbish (hacks) MUST be disabled!
Look in Tools> Add on's> Extensions & Plug-in's. (NET framework, Windows Presentation Foundation, Shockwave, Silverlight, Java stuff, or other active scripting rubbish).

Firefox, beefed up with 'NoScript' and my other official Firefox Collection items, stops acres of malware seen here in Y! Answers:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox...nbarpappy/

Turn off 3rd party assets:
Tools> Options> Privacy> top drop menu set to "Firefox will use custom settings..."> Check 'Accept Cookies from sites'
â–º& Un-Check 'Accept 3rd Party cookies'.

Use a "Limited User" account and "Sandboxie": http://www.sandboxie.com/
for even better protection.
Core defense applications might include (but not limited to):
Avast! (anti-virus); http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download
or Avira.
"MalwareBytes" works for rubbish already plaguing you, if any.

Always incorporate a stout firewall: Some freeware is here: http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/securi...ewall.html
Look them over and match your needs to skill level.

SpywareBlaster (snoopware prevention and hostfile guardian); http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

If you don't have time or skill for 'updating', have a look @ "Secunia": checks all your 3rd party programs for updates.
Freeware.

Most novice users and Windows fanboys do not like hearing this, but nonetheless, it's true: using Windows on the Internet, requires you to become a security EXPERT, it's that G.d. simple. Something they conveniently omit telling you when you buy this system...

Note that deliberate use of 'dark side' sites, porn, peer-2-peer, pirated music, movies, software, etc. will ultimately defeat ANY security barriers.

Making all these changes seems overwhelming, and it is a pain in the keester; but it MUST be done: or stop using Windows on the Internet; move to Linux.

You should use anti-malware software to remove System Tool from your computer. I recommend Malwarebytes Antimalware and Hitman Pro. Both programs are free and safe to use.
