Is it against US military policy to bad mouth the US President on social media?

I have seen some people claiming to be in US Armed forces bad mouthing president Obama and then some people are commenting that it is again Military policy is it true (This is not a bash Obama or Romney post, just want to know if it is against policy). I have been looking for proof, but can't find any, but maybe I'm just typing it into Google wrong.

Yes. Like any work place, the boss is the boss. In general the military stays non political. Folks at the White House come & go.

Article 88 of the UCMJ makes it illegal for a commissioned officer to say bad things about the President:

While Article 88 doesn't apply to enlisted it's possible for a troop's chain of command to find other ways to punish a troop who is openly insulting the president and causing problems due to their speech. You can practically charge somebody with anything if you pull out Article 134 of the UCMJ, for example.

As Sgt Billy Bob, no you cannot bash the commander in chief. But, as Mr. Billy Bob, you have freedom of speech. So... claiming to be in the military... no they should not be opening their mouths and yes it can come back and bite them in the butt. But, if they went on their as private citizens, they are welcome to say what they want.

Just like a member in uniform cannot attend a political rally or a protest. But out of uniform, they are free to do so.
