How do I stop Facebook sending me messages?

Log in to your facebook account and click the Account Settings. After clicking the Account Settings, click on Notifications and then uncheck all the things you don;t want to have notifications for.

If you can't find the Account Setting tab then look for it here: On the top right side near your facbook small profile pic in a dropdown list marked by a downward arrow (btw it may be on the right side also if you are having new facebook design.. man they just keep changing the design )

Or else simply search for it in facebook help itself.
