How does the chat system on facebook really work?

What I am wondering is how it ranks your friends, One of my questions is say if you not often talk to someone over Facebook and they're like viewing your profile a lot, would that make them higher ranked? also how does more friends work?

Yes, the most active friends(wid u) are ranked first and the least active are ranked last.

The more active you are with someone the higher up the chat list they will go. This does not count for looking at profiles though, just how much you like their posts or vice versa, or how much you talk on there
