His plan called for allowing the public to invest a small portion of their Social Security in markets, the majority would remain in gov hands like it is now. It never called for "privatization." That term was used by opponents to whip up fear.

At least we would have something left. There isn't much left to Social Security, and no one seems to be able to figure out how to pay for it in the near future when two people are drawing out what one puts in.

By the way, my retirement is in the stock market and is doing fine.

If that had happened, there would be no social security left now.

Social Security could be fixed very easily and never run out of money. First, the Republicans need to stop taking loans from it, which by the way is illegal -- ss was not setup to be a use as you want fund.
If everyone paid ss on all they made not just the first $107000, it would never run out. Business could be left at the 200K they pay on now.

The way it is setup now, only the poor and the middle class pay on all they make. Anyone making over $107000, only pays on the first $107000 they make.

To those of you that don't like ss, I'd like to see you turn it down when it comes to your turn to get it. For those of you that hate "socialized" medicine, when you are old and no longer have employer healthcare, I like you to see turn down Medicare and try to find you own insurance for $95 a month.

For the poor and a lot of the middle class, that can't afford to put a lot money into a 401K or IRA, SS is most of what they will have to retire on -- if they get to retire.

This country, is the worst at taking care of it's elderly.
