You might not care about the social side but how big is your fiscal party without the other portions?

If you do that the entire party becomes out of touch with the rest of America.
What makes a party like the Democrats have so much power?
They keep in touch with several single issue groups like Feminists, Gays, Liberals, Environ-nutjobs, Poor folk, etc
They also attract people when the liberal media works to get a reaction
Anger works in the Democrat's favor, thus winning them seats
If the Republicans decide to cut and run from its Evangelicals
There wouldn't be such strong support anymore
Social conservatives would form their own third party, splintering the old GOP
GOP needs some of its agenda to be passed so they keep the Christians around to be in power

They need to jettison the conservative claim in both areas.

Here are just two examples why:

* Republican administrations are responsible for over 85% of the country's national debt
* Senator Craig, Congressman Foley, Senator Vitter, Reverend Haggard and need I list more?

I vote democrat for exactly that reason. I abhor the philosophy that a citizen has any say in how another citizen lives their private life. We don't need mutual agreement, just mutual respect.

I would love to reform welfare. I have mixed emotions about affirmative action, but ideologically, I am completely against it. A TRULY level playing field is ideal. In the same vein, we need to stop worrying about "American interests" over-seas. If we can't provide it for ourselves though trade alone, then to bad. Most of our problems right now stem from issues outside our borders, and I don't mean immigration. The solution is pretty simple.

My 4 years in the Navy gave me a lot to be proud of, but it didn't give me the right to say that I defended the Constitution in the way that it is written. I wish it had and I do believe one day, service members will be able to say so. As far as I am concerned, this IS my country. I have payed the dues that most will never. If you think that you can tell me why I don't deserve to call myself a patriot, I welcome you to try.
