If you unfriend someone one facebook you are just removing him from your friends. He can still send you a message and see your wall posts.
If you block someone you can't see him anywhere, you can't exchange messages or see your posts. The only way to meet the one you blocked is during games on facebook that you are both using. Unfriending is good if you just don't be friend with someone. Blocking is good for annoying people who are sending spam or bad language messages on strangers or talk bad about others. Ads |

When you unfriend someone, they can still see you're activities (unless your account is private) but can still be tagged in your photos and statuses, and also have the choice to mail or friend you. When you block someone, they cannot even see your profile at all. You will not come up whenever they search you. They cannot be tagged or mail you and they cannot see anything you do on the website. They also do not have the choice to add you. So basically, if you unfriend someone they can still refriend you and see what you're doing, but if you block someone they are completely out of whatever you do. They have no access to you through the website whatsoever.
