Facebook Mobile Icon does not appear?

My facebook profile doesn't get the mobile icon when I stop using Facebook/Messenger on my phone when I close the apps, it shows me as Online with the green dot. I have Facebook mobile setup and linked my number etc so it should work?

When I actually logout of Facebook and Messenger, only then will the mobile icon appear with a said given time. But even though I have mobile notifications activated, I don't get alerted when I receive an inbox message if I sign out of the Facebook app and Messenger app so I always have to stay signed in. And yes, I have alerts on for facebook messages so I should be alerted, but I'm not. This results in me having to stay signed in, and always show me as Online, even though I've closed the app and I'm not longer using it. This doesn't seem to be the case with other people, or is this the way it is for everyone? Is there something I'm doing/have done wrong?
