I thought it was just hilarious when you said "Muhammad (peace be upon him) liberated the human mind from superstition, deception and ..." For me, those words are the very definition of a religion.

And you say he "called for good manners" - have you ever had any dealings with Japanese people? They are essentially almost-completely Atheist, but also THE most polite and well-mannered people I have ever had the joy to deal with. I aspire to their level of tranquility and even-keeled composure, and I've been delighted to be described by a few people as "painfully-polite".

Not much but i'm reading Quran and hadiths to seek truth.

I'm interested in Islam, some concepts are inspiring like modesty and submission to God. The West seems to worship only Money and consider the man useful only to make profits. But man isn't a machine, is a creation of God.

I'm studying New Testament too.

I live in a country of catholic background but i was not interested in religious debates since 1 year ago after i read New Testament. I felt sick about people worshipping the virgin Mary, who was just a human woman, and i found something that doesn't convince me at 100% in the christian scriptures about the divinity of Jesus. Also Saul of Tarsus is not mentioned as an apostle of Jesus and the concept of messiah doesn't mean that must be God or a god. Messiah is a human savoir, also Cyrus the Great, a man, was considered a messiah by the jews!

I'm a sinner as all people, but one of Jesus best followers was a sinner: the prostitute Mary Magdalene. Maybe i'm in a "jahiliyyah" state but i'm working on it and study Islam by myself before i ask some imams or scholars Smile

It's a long time since i have heard the truth about our propthet muhammad (pbuh), on yahoo at least.

To all non-muslims, if you don't believe in our religion, keep as your own matter. after all, jews, christians, hindu's can believe what want, and no does anything about that? - i'm not implying that we should either, i'm saying we should be able to believe what we want, in peace. And if our prophet (pbuh) hit his wife, if our religion was all about violence, how and why can anyone follow such religion?

@ John the farmer - Chapter 9 Surat At-Tawbah (The Repentance)

Surat At-Tawbah verse 27 says;

'Then Allah will accept repentance after that for whom He wills; and Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.' - The meaning and interpretation of this verse can be further understood by reading verses 25 and 26.

Surat At-Tawbah verse 73 says;

'O Prophet, fight against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them. And their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the destination.'

- - - In response the Surat At-Tawbah verse 73 (9:73) - - -

Surat Al-Baqarah (The Cow) verse 190 says;

'Fight in the way of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress. Indeed. Allah does not like transgressors.' - Fighting does not strictly mean killing, furthermore -

Surat Al-Baqarah (The Cow) verse 192 says;

'And if they cease, then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.' - Killing in most cases is transgressional, (see meaning transgress) and if a disbeliever stops fighting, then a believer must stop too. It is also important to note that when 'they' is applied to a verse, it does not strictly reffer to every one of those particular people.

Surat At- Tawbah verse 121 says;

'Nor do they spend an expenditure, small or large, or cross a valley but that it is registered for them that Allah may reward them for the best of what they were doing.' - The meaning and interpretation can be further understood by reading verses 119 and 120.

At a guess I would say that the average non muslim knows little about Mohamed. The information we have is from the media and portrays islam as a violent religion whose followers bomb the innocent and oppress women. What we see is not the prophet but the violence and oppression men do in his name.
