Can you shut down your facebook for good?

The only thing I have found was basicly suspending the account. And I could log back in at any given time.

Is there a way to permanently shut it down? And If so, would you provide me the steps?

You can deactivate your account, but it is not permanent as simply by logging in again you can reactivate it.

On the settings (upper right corner), click "help" and type "How do I permanently delete my account?" Click the first result and click the "deactivate."

I believe if you deactivate your account, Facebook will delete it after 14 days.
