If you wanna get one, do it. I have the same problem. You don't have to say anything personal about yourself (fake bday if you want, it doesn't matter). You can create a new e-mail address just for that site if you'd like to. You can delete it if you don't want it, yes. If you want it back after deleting it, you can just sign in as normal and you'll get an email to open it again.

Privacy, I doubt you get much but you can make your profile private (as can anyone else) so you may not be able to look at the other people's profiles, but there are others who leave theirs open to everyone.

Facebook is just a site, it shouldn't be recording anything that goes on outside the site. But it is a bit like a stalker, though. Everything you is shown to the people on your friends list, although you can change your preferences. It's just a big hassle to do those things. You don't have to use your real name but make sure it's a name you wanna keep because if you wanna change it again, it's just another 2-say hassle if it doesn't save right away (which in this case you would give full access to the people behind facebook, which is uncool if you ask me).

Well, to be honest the best thing about facebook is you can decide who you want to be friends with or not and the only people that can get on are those that have been to school. The only bad part is that facebook has gotten a bit more commercial with all this competition from myspace. But, honestly facebook is much faster and much more simple.

You can def. delete your account if you get tired of it (my friend did when she stopped using it) You get plenty of privacy and when someone asks to be your friend you know who they are and if any of your other friends know them or not. None of the information you want to be posted will be posted on the web. Only your name and email and that's pretty much it. As for the recording sites? I've never heard of it and it's never happened to me but I'm sure there's a way to restrict it.

Once you start an account you can choose the privacy settings and all sorts of stuff. If you don't like it just delete it. But, I'd say if you REALLY feel uncomfortable don't feel pressured. It's really not that bad, and I've felt really safe using it.

Good Luck!

You don't give off a lot of information. You can customize it so know one really knows who you are unless they talk to you. You don't have to have pictures or videos of yourself. Just be careful of the facebook virus that is going around.
