Writers: How would you feel about these things?
02-19-2014, 01:18 PM
Post: #11

1) People started a Team [Your character] or Team [Your other character].
--- I would be flattered (and a little taken aback)-- I just created two characters that people find likable enough to start rooting for.. wow..

2) Started comparing your book to their favorite book in the whole wide world: Twilight.
--- I wouldn't see how as mine is clearly not a supernatural/paranormal romance nor have a female lead. If its a stylewise comparison-- I will work hard in my writing to end those comparisons!

3) Started calling themselves Mrs. [Your character's name].
--- Its time for this person to stop reading for a while and go out and meet some REAL people.

4) Started being mean and belligerent to anyone who trashed your book.
---This is the US of A and everyone is allowed to express their own opinions, but I thank that person for the intense support Smile

5) Started pestering you about when the next book in your series will come out even though you JUST finished this one.
--- If someone is eager, that is just more motivation for me to keep writing and I will take it that way.

6) Started leaving awesomely fantastic reviews about your book anywhere they can, but along the lines of "OMG [Your character's name] is sooo hot. You have to read this book. It's sooo good."
--- You just saw the movie and then grabbed the book for the so called "man-candy". You can't give a book review based on how attractive a character is.

7) Started being mean and belligerent to anyone who said bad things about your character.
---See #4

8) Created a Twitter account and posted as your character.
---Well thanks for the enthusiasm..

9) Created a PARODY Twitter account and made fun of your character.
---Would check it out and laugh with you.

10) Started asking around for your real address.
---Write to me instead, I will set up a PO box. If you have stalker-ish tendencies-- I will deal with them using the law. I expect my privacy to be respected.

11) Started showing up at EVERY reading, book signing, or public appearance you make.
---Flattered but weary. Once again-- stalker-ish tendencies will be dealt with legally, I might also get a bodyguard if it goes overboard.

12) Said they wished your character was their boyfriend because he's more real than any real-life boy.
---How old is the person that said that? Get out and meet some REAL people before you say that and see what the world really has to offer you before you settle for a fictious character,

13) Said they dreamed and thought about your character every day.
---Flattered.. but keep those dreams to your little ole self please.

14) Said they cried because their friends talked badly about your book.
---See #4 and #7

15) Waited in an hour-long line that progressed around the bookstore's corner at midnight waiting for the release of your book, and they also stood in line tearing up over it.
---That's some true devotion! I will send you a free copy signed by yours truly.

16) Asked where they can read or download the book for free
---You will have to buy it like everyone else, or check it out or borrow it from a friend.

1) People started a Team [Your character] or Team [Your other character].
-_- I would question if they actually read the book since there is no way they would say that. There is only *one* guy that could be the love interest. The other guy is not so much love interest. If you read it, you know it.

2) Started comparing your book to their favorite book in the whole wide world: Twilight.
Well... since my story is no where near like Twilight and it's actually good, I would be confused as to why they would compare it to Twilight. But thanks for the "praise".

3) Started calling themselves Mrs. [Your character's name].
They have obsession issues. Ones which I suggest talking to a doctor about.

4) Started being mean and belligerent to anyone who trashed your book.
It's honestly not that big of a deal if someone states their opinion about my book. Everyone has one. Please let everyone have them. If someone doesn't like it, that's fine. Let them not like it. Please leave them alone in their hate.

5) Started pestering you about when the next book in your series will come out even though you JUST finished this one.
Tell them as soon as they stop bothering me about when it'll come out, I'll be able to actually sit down and write it. Until then, it's not coming out any time soon. Stop annoying me and it'll come sooner.

6) Started leaving awesomely fantastic reviews about your book anywhere they can, but along the lines of "OMG [Your character's name] is sooo hot. You have to read this book. It's sooo good."
Really? That's all you got out of it? Did you not read it at all? Because I'm starting to wonder if you did... You'd see there is more to it than just "hot" characters who aren't even real.

7) Started being mean and belligerent to anyone who said bad things about your character.
Well, guess they'll say the same thing about me cause I say bad things about my characters. Yes, I am allowed to because I am the author, but so is everyone else. There's good and bad in everything. I can see that. I'm glad when others can see that as well. Can you?

8) Created a Twitter account and posted as your character.
Obsessed much?

9) Created a PARODY Twitter account and made fun of your character.
Oh my... I think I'm calling for a restraining order...

10) Started asking around for your real address.
I'd lie. I mean, I have lived several different areas, who's to know if I actually live there now? Big Grin

11) Started showing up at EVERY reading, book signing, or public appearance you make.
O_o Um.. thanks for the praise and appreciation of everything of mine, but seriously... get a life and back off. I'm about to call the cops on you. Big time.

12) Said they wished your character was their boyfriend because he's more real than any real-life boy.
They have issues. -_- Most of which involve falling in love with a FAKE character who isn't real. I mean... really... They aren't real. Please don't treat them as such.

13) Said they dreamed and thought about your character every day.
Uh... ^^; I'd start backing away. Quickly.

14) Said they cried because their friends talked badly about your book.
They need to get a life. And better friends.

15) Waited in an hour-long line that progressed around the bookstore's corner at midnight waiting for the release of your book, and they also stood in line tearing up over it.
Seriously people?! It's really not that big of a deal! Stop obsessing over it! It's not money or life or something. It's a book.

16) Asked where they can read or download the book for free.
It's called the library. If you honestly are that cheap and lazy to not even bother looking at my book, then please don't bother reading it. I am not giving anything away free. Please don't ask for it.

1) People started a Team [Your character] or Team [Your other character].
This one would bother me a bit, because it was started by Twilight. I mean, it's ok to cheer for different love interests (mine definitely has a little, no, big triangle) It's getting annoying with the whole "team" thing

2) Started comparing your book to their favorite book in the whole wide world: Twilight.
I'd actually be insulted. I mean, it's a compliment because they mean it to be like the next big thing, but I honestly hope my writing and ideas are better than Twilight

3) Started calling themselves Mrs. [Your character's name].
I'd laugh. I've done it too :} *looks off into the distance* Prince Johnathon <3

4) Started being mean and belligerent to anyone who trashed your book.
I'd feel bad for those being insulted. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I don't trash every Twi-hard, but if they push the book in my face over and over, I'll get mad

5) Started pestering you about when the next book in your series will come out even though you JUST finished this one.
Ignore them. I'd probably tease my fans a bit with a few spoilers/excerpts along the writing process, but they would just have to wait. A real human writes books, not a robot

6) Started leaving awesomely fantastic reviews about your book anywhere they can, but along the lines of "OMG [Your character's name] is sooo hot. You have to read this book. It's sooo good."
I'd roll my eyes and hope that people decide to read it because they want to and don't let the hot comments make them think my book is any teen book

7) Started being mean and belligerent to anyone who said bad things about your character.
same with them being mean to people who don't like my book. Besides, you're not going to like all the characters- you're not supposed to

8) Created a Twitter account and posted as your character.
I'd ask them to take it down. I don't want people getting into the mind of my character when it's really not their mind. Only I would be able to do that

9) Created a PARODY Twitter account and made fun of your character.
Ask them to take it down, and report them. Can you report on Twitter?

10) Started asking around for your real address.
What can you do but ask them to stop?

11) Started showing up at EVERY reading, book signing, or public appearance you make.
I'd feel honored :} as long as they didn't do anything rash, I'd be fine

12) Said they wished your character was their boyfriend because he's more real than any real-life boy.
This is where I would draw the line and tell them they need to get out more. So-and-so is NOT real

13) Said they dreamed and thought about your character every day.
kind of weird, but still be flattered

14) Said they cried because their friends talked badly about your book.
I'd laugh. There's nothing else to do

15) Waited in an hour-long line that progressed around the bookstore's corner at midnight waiting for the release of your book, and they also stood in line tearing up over it.
crying about a not yet released book?

16) Asked where they can read or download the book for free.
I'd get a bit mad. People try to make a living off their books, so getting it for free is messing with their life.

--
Oh god, for the sake of my fans, I hope I never get published, haha. I'd be a jerk XD

1) People started a Team [Your character] or Team [Your other character].
~ Oh how I dread teams! I wouldn’t be too happy.

2) Started comparing your book to their favorite book in the whole wide world: Twilight.
~ Once again, I wouldn’t be too happy…

3) Started calling themselves Mrs. [Your character's name].
~ Um, only in your dreams Mrs. Damien, he’s homosexual.

4) Started being mean and belligerent to anyone who trashed your book.
~ I could take some of that, but only if they had a reason. For some reason, it amuses me to see stuff like that…

5) Started pestering you about when the next book in your series will come out even though you JUST finished this one.
~ My response: “I will just write slower the more you pester me.”

6) Started leaving awesomely fantastic reviews about your book anywhere they can, but along the lines of "OMG [Your character's name] is sooo hot. You have to read this book. It's sooo good."
~ I wouldn’t be too happy at those kinds of reviews.

7) Started being mean and belligerent to anyone who said bad things about your character.
~ I would be mad that my fans refuse to allow others to have opinions.

8) Created a Twitter account and posted as your character.
~ Not amused.

9) Created a PARODY Twitter account and made fun of your character.
~ Once again, not amused.

10) Started asking around for your real address.
~ My response: “Go get a hobby, stalker.”

11) Started showing up at EVERY reading, book signing, or public appearance you make.
~ Oh, boy, I would be amused at their deduction but shocked by their stalker-ish ways.

12) Said they wished your character was their boyfriend because he's more real than any real-life boy.
~ Once again I would explain how he is homosexual.

13) Said they dreamed and thought about your character every day.
~ Call them “mental” and walk away.

14) Said they cried because their friends talked badly about your book.
~ Tell them to allow others to have opinions.

15) Waited in an hour-long line that progressed around the bookstore's corner at midnight waiting for the release of your book, and they also stood in line tearing up over it.
~ Could care less.

16) Asked where they can read or download the book for free.
~ My response: “Just buy the book already, or borrow it, anything but downloading illegally.”

1) People started a Team [Your character] or Team [Your other character].
I'd be interested how it was even possible to have teams with no romance, but I suppose anything is possible. This is more something I'd probably just roll my eyes at.

2) Started comparing your book to their favorite book in the whole wide world: Twilight.
As long as mine was being compared as way better I could handle it. But why Twilight is better I'd probably hate myself.

3) Started calling themselves Mrs. [Your character's name].
I'd be like ok, you need to get out more.

4) Started being mean and belligerent to anyone who trashed your book.
I'd be like whoa, calm down, it's a book, people are allowed their opinions. Then *secret highfive* Just joking. I wouldn't want there people to be rude to anyone else just because of a difference in opinions.

5) Started pestering you about when the next book in your series will come out even though you JUST finished this one.
Ignore them. Get away from them. Maybe find a new series for them to read while they wait.

6) Started leaving awesomely fantastic reviews about your book anywhere they can, but along the lines of "OMG [Your character's name] is sooo hot. You have to read this book. It's sooo good."
I'd be like, well your imagination works great because this isn't a picture book. I'd be pleased my book was being promoted through word of mouth, but I wouldn't want to be known just because all my characters are good looking.

7) Started being mean and belligerent to anyone who said bad things about your character.
Well there is no need to stand up for a person who isn't real. I'd tell them to cool it and go make some real friends to stand up for.

8) Created a Twitter account and posted as your character.
I don't use Twitter, so I wouldn't really care.

9) Created a PARODY Twitter account and made fun of your character.
Well whatever entertains people.

10) Started asking around for your real address.
That would be creepy. I would start locking all my doors and windows at night.

11) Started showing up at EVERY reading, book signing, or public appearance you make.
I'd be like, dude my signature is the same every time I write it. Depending on who this person was I'd shrug it off as a overzealous fan or creepy stalker.

12) Said they wished your character was their boyfriend because he's more real than any real-life boy.
I would feel sad for this person and would hope they are a child which would explain their lack of life experiences. If not, well I would happily introduce them to the real world.

13) Said they dreamed and thought about your character every day.
Well as long as they keep those thoughts to themselves I'm not bothered. It's their business what they dream about.

14) Said they cried because their friends talked badly about your book.
I'd figure they were oversensitive and try explaining that it's just a book.

15) Waited in an hour-long line that progressed around the bookstore's corner at midnight waiting for the release of your book, and they also stood in line tearing up over it.
Well I'd feel pretty good that the release of my book meant so much to someone. I'd be miffed as to why but I don't question good things.

16) Asked where they can read or download the book for free
I'd tell them if they wanted to read it they could buy it. It would be rather rude to say that to an authors face. Basically that just belittles their work and suggests its not worth the money. I certainly wouldn't be able to look at them twice.

1) People started a Team [Your character] or Team [Your other character].
-I'd laugh for awhile, but then it'd just get weird and annoying.

2) Started comparing your book to their favorite book in the whole wide world: Twilight.
-Nothing can compare to Twilight. When will Twilight win? Duh - NEVER! I'd be pretty mortified that they went that far.

3) Started calling themselves Mrs. [Your character's name].
Creepy since most of my characters are girls (unless they went for non MC)

4) Started being mean and belligerent to anyone who trashed your book.
-YOU GO GIRL (or dude)!!!!

5) Started pestering you about when the next book in your series will come out even though you JUST finished this one.
-(if I wrote series) "Yesh, calm down you *beep*" Ha ha, just kidding, I'd never say that. "Okay, okay, please be patient. I'll try to get done as soon as possible."

6) Started leaving awesomely fantastic reviews about your book anywhere they can, but along the lines of "OMG [Your character's name] is sooo hot. You have to read this book. It's sooo good."
-"Why thank you. But please don't get over obsessive, it's just a book."

7) Started being mean and belligerent to anyone who said bad things about your character.
-"It's okay, its's okay, there will always be someone who hates my characters or writing." whispers "but I bet they didn't read my books." *coughs* xD

8) Created a Twitter account and posted as your character.
-Funny!!!!!!! But I'd be a better my character. I mean, I created them!

9) Created a PARODY Twitter account and made fun of your character.
-"Okay people, no need to get out of hand."

10) Started asking around for your real address.
-No thanks!!!!

11) Started showing up at EVERY reading, book signing, or public appearance you make.
-*awkward silence*

12) Said they wished your character was their boyfriend because he's more real than any real-life boy.
-"And who would your real boyfriend be?" *cricket, cricket*

13) Said they dreamed and thought about your character every day.
-"You might need this." *hands person therapist's card w/number*

14) Said they cried because their friends talked badly about your book.
-"It's alright, not everyone will like what I write."

15) Waited in an hour-long line that progressed around the bookstore's corner at midnight waiting for the release of your book, and they also stood in line tearing up over it.
-"What EXACTLY do you do in your free time?"

16) Asked where they can read or download the book for free.
-"Uh, no. You have to buy it."

God bless!

Terrified by their stalker-ish (and sad) attitude towards one if not several of my characters/me. Apart from the last one - then I'd tell them that real fans pay... Tongue

Friday 13th tomorrow - *gasp*

1) People started a Team [Your character] or Team [Your other character].
Amused, though it's best if to stay away from all this "Team" business if I value my sanity.

2) Started comparing your book to their favorite book in the whole wide world: Twilight.
I'd hide in my closet and have a long, good cry of shame.

3) Started calling themselves Mrs. [Your character's name].
I'd wonder what made those fans think my characters are "date-able" (or marry-able, rather). There is barely any romance in my story and that's including the hints of a crush between two characters. Either way, this isn't something I'd worry over. Let the fans have their fun, they aren't hurting anybody yet...are they?

4) Started being mean and belligerent to anyone who trashed your book.
Oh dear. I'd be dismayed and disappointed. It's only a book, there is no need for this situation to result in blows.

5) Started pestering you about when the next book in your series will come out even though you JUST finished this one.
I'd stop replying, simple as that.

6) Started leaving awesomely fantastic reviews about your book anywhere they can, but along the lines of "OMG [Your character's name] is sooo hot. You have to read this book. It's sooo good."
I'd feel dismayed and perhaps a little let down to know that my fans care more about my characters' looks than the actual writing itself.

7) Started being mean and belligerent to anyone who said bad things about your character.
Same way I'd feel about fans who are mean to people who trash my book - dismayed and disappointed.
Well, I've been using the word "dismayed," a lot, haven't I?

8) Created a Twitter account and posted as your character.
I wouldn't mind. Maybe I'd read some of their posts out of curiosity.

9) Created a PARODY Twitter account and made fun of your character.
Read some of their posts out of curiosity. Darn...I am a curious girl, aren't I? Tongue

10) Started asking around for your real address.
Aaaugh, stalkers. They're everywhere. At least they don't actually KNOW my address and it's unlikely someone will give it to them...

11) Started showing up at EVERY reading, book signing, or public appearance you make.
I would feel creeped out and wonder if they've been Google-stalking my whereabouts.

12) Said they wished your character was their boyfriend because he's more real than any real-life boy.
On the outside: Give my best attempt at keeping a straight face, nod, and say, "All right, dear. But remember, he/she is only a fictional character,"
On the inside: "Oh dear, I am getting a little worried here."

13) Said they dreamed and thought about your character every day.
I'd raise one eyebrow, put on a confused expression, and say, "Oh really? Is that true?" while hiding the fact that I'm a little worried too...

14) Said they cried because their friends talked badly about your book.
Quite exasperated, but I'd lay one hand on their shoulder and say, "Don't worry, [insert fan's name]. Your friends are entitled to their own opinions, right? There's nothing to worry about"

15) Waited in an hour-long line that progressed around the bookstore's corner at midnight waiting for the release of your book, and they also stood in line tearing up over it.
Flattered, yet creeped out at the same time.

16) Asked where they can read or download the book for free.
"I'm sure you can buy a copy at the local bookstore,"
