Privatizing it? Yes. Then the individual can put the money where he or she thinks best.

Yep. Allow me to manage it as though it were an IRA and I can make money off this. My retirement accounts are in the green. This is unlike the government run social security. I can run my retirement better than the government can.

Privatization does not necessarily mean it has to go into stocks and bonds. I manage the distribution of my IRA and Roth accounts as I choose to invest it.

Yes. A 7% annualized return over 30 years beats a 1.5% (treasuries) annualized return over 30 years every time. If we had done it a long time ago, SS would be solvent.
