Social Definition: Hybridization...help!?

I'm studding for my social final and one of the words i need to know is Hybridization. The definition in the text book is; The blending of media and communications technologies resulting in new modes of expression and cross-cultural consumption.
Social isn't my strong subject and i dont really know what the fuck that means, so could someone please dumb it down for me? lol thx
