You didn't specify what type of internet connection you are using- Dial up or Broadband.
Therefore I assume that you are using broadband as dial-up is so outdated. All the thing that you have to do is to disable your LAN (Local Area Network). That's how you connect to high speed internet. To disable LAN: Start->Control Panel->Network Connections->Local Area Connection. Right-click on Local Area Connection and click "Disable".
