Suppose you saved the money you put into SSI, without a gain in capital, and were able to draw it back out later, without having to pay tax on it. It was pretty painful what happened in the stock market, yes, but it is also painful to know that if you save money, you are losing money, as the value of the dollar declines. All this in mind, I still agree with privatizing SSI. Just the fact that there is more money going out than there is going in, under the current system, shows us that it will fail, and soon. Then you get absolutely nothing in return for your forced investment over the years.
