How does the social networking affect the concept of mass media?

Social networking and the definition of "mass media" and how different things affect it is a HUGE topic.

In my opinion: it doesn't. I don't see social networking as having anything to do with the media, other than the internet is a medium for conveying information and social networks are on the internet as are news organizations.

Mass Media is rapidly changing due to social networking. Only 10 years ago, mass media was primarily tv, radio broadcasts, and print media monitored by government and constrained by several corporations. Social networking allows information, for better or worse, to be shared quickly, freely, and completely uninhibited. Several pros and cons here… i.e. social networking in China vs. mass hysteria from incorrect or misleading data.
