Why do we only hear bad things about social sites like face book?

i have facebook and i like it..i don't post anything i would want kept a secret..it gives me the opportunity to "see" distant relatives...
it is just a means of "talking and seeing pictures..... i still love real mail and phones..internet will never replace that in my life Ads |

There are just tooooo many bad stuff on them..you have to be careful to what you write or show on those things..someone or someday something bad will happen..I don't have any of those and will never have any of those social networking, being on here is just as bad,don't need anything else..=)

I deleted my Facebook account because of privacy concerns, but another thing that bothers me is that it really has turned into an advertising website, more than a social one. Practically every business I walk into, has huge banners saying "Like us on Facebook!" And I think to myself, Why would I want to do that? To give them free advertising? Many of them offer some little token, maybe a discount, or some free token of their appreciation if you 'like' them. Well, I would prefer they give me the discount up front, and then I might be more inclined to like them.

I enjoy fb too. I keep up with not only my kids, but kids of friends, friends from other areas of the country, relatives I never get to see, ect ect. I like that it is there waiting if I feel like going. I enjoy it much. I'm careful, don't post my birthday, or other info, but if you're too careful you can't enjoy the internet.
