Do you find it difficult to describe yourself politically in a word or two?

I think exactly like you do. Classical Liberalism fits I guess.

But I consider myself to be a conservative republican.

This ones easy...Constitution supporter!
Even though parties have defining general beliefs, there are good, and bad individuals in every party. While I am conservative, I also reserve the right to not blindly vote for them if there is a better choice.
An example of a better choice was my writing in Ron Paul over voting for McCain.
I was a Republican until I caught onto, and got frustrated with always having to choose the lesser evil instead of a good candidate.
Focusing on the candidates who put leading by our Constitution first, no matter which party they are affiliated with are the only leaders I can stand behind.
