Hi Georgia. It has over 50k apps in which you are able to find most of the famous apps from iOS and android.. For example you can find:
- Temple run
- Angry birds
- Netflix
- Many of the games from Facebook like Words, scramble, Zynga poker etc
- Quickoffice pro for work and stuff
- etc

Here you can search for apps which you are curious about:

Plus you can always sideload apps from google play..

Review from an owner of Kindle Fire HD, should help you out:

Kindle Fire HD, best price:

Hope this was helpful enough!

Got one.

Yes, there are many apps. I'd probably number it as a few thousand.

The Fire HD is nice. It's a nice balance in size and functionality for eReader vs. iPad. You'll like it.

Yes, it's a very good price tablet with HD screen resolution, dolby audio speaker, dual antenna WiFi, HDMI out, etc. I'll say it's even better than iPad for streaming videos (latest iPad still only has a mono speaker).

If you're in the UK, you'll interested in this actual user review. It mentioned about what are some good apps to get, and other features:

Hope that helps.
